Book Cover Blog #1
For the next few blog entries I'm going to be covering a few book covers that use a large amount of typographic elements in order to gain some additional information for our next project that will be due shortly.
This book is called The Alchemist written by Michael Scott.
For this book cover I assume the author or artist designing the cover of the book was taking some of the sci-fi elements from the book and using it to manipulate their text to represent the book. I do like the style of the text but It can get a little bit jumbled and hard to read due to how close the words are placed together. The font itself isn't bad but the placement is lacking in a few areas unfortunately.

Typography Blog Post #6 Restaurant Bag EDITION!
These take-out bags belong to the Mexican chain restaurant Chortle. Besides making me absurdly hungry I feel no outward attachment to this layout. I find it incredibly busy and frantic. There is no consistent font or size and it just looks crazy. I know, its only purpose is to hold the delicious food until its devoured, but come one man! This thing has more words than the declaration of independence. I do like the rustic look of it and the little pieces of art displayed on the bag in order to give it a more friend look to the customers. Now excuse me while I go to Chipotle to eat my feelings.

Ive seen a lot of these type of typographic images lately. This specific style uses multiple words pertaining to the subject matter and rearranges them in order to create a more art-like image. This image is depicting a mans face. I've seen many bad attempts at this style and I will most likely cover them on my blog. This attempt was done very well in my opinion. Unlike others this graphic properly uses words with correct spacing and clarity. The contrast between the text and background also flow very well and form and effective project.

This. This is confusing. I understand where this person was coming from trying to make this piece unique and special. However I feel that having the words and phrases come together at multiple angles is only proving do detract from the design by forcing the reader to rotate their face in confusion to try and read it.

Event/Flyer
For the last post relating to the event flyers and poster I chose one that I don't like all that much. I feel this kind of old timey classic design has been overused so much that the horse has been beaten dead for many years. What I don't like about this is how bland it is. It also doesn't really tell me what kind of music this is going to be. However, this poster does have a leg to stand on with its layout and text placement. The use of different fonts worked out well as well as the placement of logos. Even though the placement went well it still feels all of the text is boxed in by the banners.
Pros:
-Placement was relatively successful
-Logos and branding came through
Cons:
-Color palate was bland and boring. Extremely washed out in my opinion.
-Overused aspects.
-Doesn't tell me anything at all about the music.

Since were doing this project on the Kinetik Music Concert I Figured I might as well critique the 'would have been' flyer for this upcoming festival that unfortunately got cancelled.Overall I like this flyer, but not for any of the background aspects in this piece. I like how well the text is layed out. Unfortunately it does seem a little bit smashed together at time. The only other gripe I really have is that the they could have expanded the border so that all the text couldnt have been smashed and used all of the empty space in the back for some breathing room.
Pros:
-Good layout
-Smooth and concise color scheme
-the font is connected well throughout the entire flyer
Cons:
-The text can feel compacted at some points.
- A little bit of open space could have been used for the rest of the flyer.

Event Flyer/Poster
For my first post I decided to use a poster from a concert that has been close to my heart for many years. This is a poster from Warped tour 2013. There are multiple things I like about this poster
Pros:
1.)The use of space is dispersed very well. The pictures dont suffocate the text much like other posters do.
2.)The designer used multiple colored fonts to separate all of the text into each section.
3.) Use of white space worked well.
Cons:
-Some blank space could have been utilized.
-Different fonts could have been used for headliners.
